Building a Terrarium


This is the same jar my mom built her terrarium in when she was my age. She shared with me her jar, her knowledge and an adorable set of terrarium tools. I’ll take you through the steps and layers of my terrarium construction. They aren’t too difficult to assemble and it makes for a fun afternoon project. So here’s what you need layered in this order:







Once you have decided on a container wash the glass well so it is clean for viewing. Then you can start on your layers. The depths of the layers will depend on your container. You need the gravel in the bottom to act as the catchall resevoir for the extra water to drain so the plant’s feet aren’t sitting in water.
